Concert: ASU Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band

ASU’s Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present a special matinee concert on Sunday, April 29, in the ASU Auditorium located inside the Mayer Administration Building, 2601 W. Ave. N.

Titled “Scootin’ on Hardrock,” the concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. and is open free to the public. 

The Symphonic Band will perform: 

  • “A Celebration Fanfare” by Alfred Reed
  • “Rollo Takes a Walk” by David Maslanka
  • “Festa!” by Elliot Del Borgo
  • “Cajun Folk Songs” by Frank Ticheli
  • “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” arranged by Donald Gillis 

The Wind Ensemble will perform: 

  • “Mother Earth (A Fanfare)” by David Maslanka
  • “Scootin’ on Hardrock” by David Holsinger
  • “Arabesque” by Samuel R. Hazo
  • “Down a Country Lane” by Aaron Copland
  • “Honey Boys on Parade” by Edward Cupero
  • “Gandalf” and “The Hobbits” from “Symphony No. 1: The Lord of the Rings” by Johann de Meij

The Wind Ensemble consists of more than 30 student musicians and is directed by Dr. Jonathan Alvis, assistant professor of music and ASU director of bands. 

The Symphonic Band also comprises over 30 student musicians and is directed by Trent Shuey, instructor of percussion and ASU assistant director of bands.
