ASU Cadets to Receive Air Force Commissions

Three graduating cadets from Angelo State University’s ROTC Detachment 847 will be honored during a commissioning ceremony on Friday, Dec. 9, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. 

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center and is open free to the public.  Military dress code for the ceremony is uniform of the day. 

Cadets Mayra Gomez of Del Rio, Clayton Sharum of Salado and Kyle Hamer of Lubbock will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force.  The first assignments for Gomez and Sharum will be as finance officers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Wash., and Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, N.M., respectively.  Hamer has been selected for duty as a combat systems officer at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida. 

The commissioning ceremony will also include a presentation by Dr. Robert S. Ehlers, director of the ASU Center for Security Studies and head of the Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice. 

In a related event, ROTC Detachment 847 recently held a Change of Command Ceremony as Gomez is the outgoing cadet wing commander. Cadet Maj. Andrew Schurman has been named the new cadet wing commander for the spring 2012 semester.
