ASU Graduates to Receive Diplomas Dec. 10

More than 480 students are scheduled to receive diplomas during Angelo State University’s fall commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 10, in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St.

Graduates of the College of Education and the College of Health and Human Services will receive their diplomas during a 10 a.m. ceremony.  Graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Business will receive their diplomas in a 2 p.m. ceremony.  All of ASU’s commencement activities are open free to the public. 

During ASU’s commencement, 78 master’s degrees, 364 bachelor’s degrees and 46 associate degrees are scheduled to be presented.  Graduate students will earn 15 master of arts, 37 master of education, five master of business administration, five master of professional accountancy, three master of public administration, six master of science in nursing and seven master of science degrees.

Undergraduates will receive 99 bachelor of arts, 59 bachelor of business administration, two bachelor of fine arts, 27 bachelor of interdisciplinary studies, one bachelor of music, one bachelor of social work, 148 bachelor of science, 27 bachelor of science in nursing and 46 associate of applied science in nursing degrees. 

The commencement speaker will be Dr. MacGregor Stephenson, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s assistant commissioner for academic affairs and research.  He joined the THECB in 2008 after serving as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs with the Texas A&M University System.  He has also served as interim director of the Tarleton State University System Center-Central Texas in Killeen, and from 2002-06 was Gov. Rick Perry’s advisor for higher education.  He holds a Ph.D. in education administration from Texas A&M.

The commencement exercises will conclude two days of graduation-related events on the ASU campus.  At 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, ASU’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will conduct its fall Commissioning Ceremony for three graduating cadets in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center inside the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.  Each cadet will receive an appointment as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

At 7 p.m. Friday, the ASU Alumni Association will host a party for all graduates, alumni and their families and friends in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave.
