Intramural Flag Football Regional Champs

Angelo State University intramural flag football teams IM Legends and Vixen both claimed National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Region IV championships in November at Texas A&M University in College Station.

IM Legends 2015 IM Legends 2015 IM Legends won the Co-Rec Division with a 28-18 victory in the final over a team from the University of Texas at Arlington. Along the way, IM Legends also posted wins over teams from Tyler Junior College, South Plains College, University of Texas at Dallas and Angelo State.

Individually for IM Legends, Chase Churchwell was named Male MVP of the tournament, Devon Wilde won Female MVP and Cooper Jackson and Valerie Villalva made the All-Tournament Team.

Vixen 2015 Vixen 2015 In the Women’s Division, ASU team Vixen won the championship with a 32-26 victory in the final over a team from Texas A&M. They also posted wins over Hardin Simmons University, University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas State University.

Individually for Vixen, Villalva was named MVP and Lorrie Potts and Rachel Washington made the All-Tournament Team.

By winning this year’s regional championships, both IM Legends and Vixen have qualified for the NIRSA National Flag Football Championship Tournament Jan. 2-4 at the University of West Florida in Pensacola.

IM Legends has now won Region IV Co-Rec titles for five consecutive years and has won five national intramural championships since 2010. Vixen has claimed four straight Region IV Women’s Division titles and has twice finished as national runner-up since 2012.

Three ASU students also participated in this year’s regional tournament as officials. Matthew Kirkham, Shelby Klein and Josh Hale are now also eligible to officiate at the national tournament in January. Five other ASU intramural teams competed at the regional tournament, giving ASU the most team entries.
