January 23, 2012

Billie Stone Fogarty, author of the Guidebook to Researching My Family Tree, will present sessions on researching military service, courthouse records and the National Archives during the 11th annual Genealogical Workshop sponsored March 3 by the Friends of the Porter Henderson Library/West Texas Collection at Angelo State University.

The workshop is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in the Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Hall at 3536 YMCA Drive in San Angelo.  Advance registration costs $55 for the workshop and buffet lunch or $50 for the workshop only, provided registration is received by Feb. 27.  Registration after that date or at the door will be $60.

Presentations by Fogarty will cover “Salute to Veterans, Researching Ancestors’ Military Service” on learning how to identify potential servicemen in each of our nation’s conflicts and where to look for possible proof of that service; “Courthouse Research, Finding the Mother Lode” on the genealogical gems that cannot be found anywhere else except the county courthouse; and “Unlocking Treasures of the National Archives” on removing the mystery from researching in archives.  All registrants will receive a notebook plus all printed material provided by the speaker.  Doors will open at 8 a.m. for coffee prior to the 8:30 a.m. program start.

Additional information or registration materials are available from Angelo State University’s West Texas Collection at 325-942-2164.
