Reid Named Director of Athletics

Dr. Brian J. May, president of Angelo State University, announced that James Reid has been named director of athletics, effective June 14. Reid had been serving as interim director of athletics since May 2015.

James Reid James Reid Reid has led the men’s and women’s track and field programs since 1999 and he served as assistant athletic director from 2007 to 2015.

ASU’s track and field teams have finished in the top three at every Lone Star Conference Championship during his tenure. His record includes an LSC title for the Rams and eight LSC titles for the Rambelles. In 2004, he led the Belles to their first-ever LSC title.

Under Reid’s guidance, the Belles in 2010 earned the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship, a feat that included two individual and one relay national titles, 12 individual All-America performances, two All-America relay teams, and the NCAA D-II National Female Field Athlete of the Year. The Belles also placed in the top 20 at the NCAA D-II Indoor National Championships in 2012-16.

While guiding his charges to athletic glory, Reid has also received numerous personal accolades. He was twice named NCAA D-II National Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year, as well as NCAA D-II South Central Region Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2009-10, USTFCCCA South Central Regional Coach of the Year in 2016, LSC Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2001, and LSC Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2003-05 and 2007-14.

Reid received his undergraduate degree from ASU in 1991 and his master’s degree in education in 1993.
