ASU Education Prof Named to National Advisory Board

During her three-year term, Purkiss will serve as an advocate for elementary educators and the NSTA’s mission to promote excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning.
Her duties will include reviewing manuscripts submitted to the group for publication in the NSTA journal as well as suggesting ideas for possible themes or column ideas for the journal. Board members also solicit manuscripts for publication, seek feedback about the journal from colleagues and identify issues important to elementary educators.
The NSTA is based in Arlington, Va., and has 60,000 members nationwide. The group encourages improvements in science education, advocates for its central role in education, supports high-quality science teaching to improve student learning, and seeks to influence research in science education and its wide application in science teaching and learning.
