March 03, 2011

Angelo State University’s Air Force ROTC Det. 847 will host its annual high school JROTC Drill Meet on Saturday, March 5, in the parking lot on the Johnson Street side of San Angelo Stadium.

More than 100 junior ROTC students from West Texas high schools will compete in various events starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Events include armed and unarmed regulation, exhibition and inspection drills, individual drills, tandem drills, color guard and the Warrior Challenge fitness competition. Judges will be Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy personnel from Goodfellow AFB.

Activities will run until about 5 p.m. and will also include a demonstration by military police dogs with their security forces handlers. On-site food sales will also be available.

In addition to competing in the various contests, the visiting high school students will also get to tour the ASU campus, including the ROTC detachment facilities, and interact with the college cadets.

All of the Drill Meet contests and activities are open free for public viewing. Parking for spectators will be on the opposite (Commerce Street) side of the stadium. For more information, call the ASU ROTC office at 942-2036.
