ASU Student Volunteers to Help in New Orleans Rebuilding

Participants in this year’s Project Spring Break will be led by Roger Quintana, who also made the trip in 2010. His main responsibility will be to facilitate discussions and reflection activities after each service project and discuss his previous experiences with this year’s group.

Other ASU students selected for the group are Martha Esquivel, Joe Gabaldon, Mary Jones, Dale Mantey and Kelly McFerren. They were picked through an application process by the Center for Student Involvement, which funds the trip along with the Office of Student Life.

The students will be provided with registration costs, accommodations, transportation to and from New Orleans, most meals and T-shirts. They will stay at the United Saints Volunteer House and volunteer through the UCC disaster recovery team for three days. They will also tour the French Quarter and experience New Orleans’ culture.

Project Spring Break offers ASU students a service opportunity as a substitute to conventional spring break activities. The UCC disaster recovery team provides volunteers with a variety of meaningful opportunities for service, reflection and leadership, according to Jennifer Johnson, ASU Greek Life and Community Service coordinator.

Johnson and Heather Valle, coordinator for student organizations, will accompany the ASU students.
