ASU Hosting FFA, 4-H Judging Contest

March 26, 2012

More than 1,200 FFA and 4-H members from about 100 schools throughout Texas will gather at Angelo State University’s Management, Instruction and Research (MIR) Center on Friday, March 30, for the ASU Invitational Judging Contest.

Check-in will begin at 7 a.m. and judging contests will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Contestants will do competitive judging in various categories, including livestock, wool, meats, wildlife, cotton, milk quality, entomology, land, poultry, range, farm business management and homesite evaluation.

The MIR Center, commonly called the ASU Ranch, is located just north of San Angelo off U.S. Hwy 87 and Grape Creek Road.  The ASU Invitational Judging Contest is classified as a FFA Career Development Event (CDE).

According to the FFA website, “Since 1928, FFA has worked to create events that demonstrate the meaningful connections between classroom instruction and real-life scenarios. CDEs build on what is learned in agricultural classes and the FFA.  The events are designed to help prepare students for careers in agriculture.”

The official flyer for the ASU contest is available online at  For more information, call Dr. Will Dickison in the ASU Agriculture Department at 325-942-2029, ext. 283.
