Zero One Ale House
Owner/Managers : Erik Zobel
Nature of Business : Restaurant
City : San Angelo
SBDC Business Advisor : Paul Howard
Erik moved to San Angelo from California a few years ago wanting to continue his profession which is architecture. He quickly learned it would be difficult to make a living at it. Therefore, he did some research and determined he wanted to open a brewery in Downtown San Angelo.
He found a location that he thought would be perfect. It was already being used but he approached the owner of the current business and he decided to purchase the restaurant that was already there. Erik then came to the Angelo State University • Small Business Development Center and met with Advisor Paul Howard. Paul suggested Erik begin work on a business plan.
After diligently working and modifying the plan, Erik modified his business model. He would continue with the restaurant and also bring in a full bar with a wide variety of draught beer choices. After about one year he would bring in the brewery element.
Erik met with his banker and was approved for the loan. He did a major overhaul of the building, adding a sprinkler system, building a bar and designing it to flow better. Erik says, “The SBDC provided significant help with the business plan.”
Zero One Ale House is now open in Downtown San Angelo, offering lunch and dinner and a fully stocked bar. This business is a tremendous asset to the local economy creating 45 jobs.
