ASU to Host Annual Computer Game Development Academy

The three-day academy is open to 24 interested high school juniors and seniors, and will be directed by Dr. Tim Roden, head of the ASU Computer Science Department. Activities are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day in Room 105 of the MCS Building.
Attendees will develop games using C++ programming language and learn the basics of 3D modeling, painting and animation using Lightwave and BodyPaint 3D programs. They will also see presentations on the gaming industry and learn about the various career paths available in the industry.
Each attendee will receive a game academy T-shirt. The event will also showcase the Entertainment Computing Laboratory in the MCS Building.
Admission fee for the academy is $75 per person and advance registration is required. The fee also includes lunch each day, and T-shirt sizes should be provided when registering.
ASU’s computer game development program was named one of the “Top 50 Undergraduate Game Design Programs” in the U.S. and Canada for 2010 by the Princeton Review. The Computer Science Department also recently added a new Computer Game Development Certificate program to provide an additional credential for graduates seeking jobs in the burgeoning computer gaming industry.
