As president, Elenkov will oversee and promote IABE’s mission as the premier international scholarly academy for the exchange and advancement of research, teaching and managerial best practices in all fields of business and economics. He has served IABE as vice president in 2010-11 and president-elect in 2011-12, and will begin his term as president at the end of this year. He is also the chair of this year’s IABE Summer Conference, and previously chaired the conference in 2008 in Sweden, 2009 in Greece and 2011 in Spain.
A professor of international business in ASU’s Department of Management and Marketing, Elenkov is the first holder of the Norris Family Chair in International Business that was established in December of 2007 through a $1 million donation from the Lloyd Norris Family of San Angelo. An endowed chair is the most prestigious academic appointment available for university faculty. ASU President Joseph C. Rallo will also attend the IABE Summer Conference representing the Norris Family.
A native of Bulgaria, Elenkov has been involved in international business since 1984, both in industry and academia. Also a prolific researcher and writer, he has produced more than 130 publications, including research papers, professional journal articles and two books, Strategic Management of the Firm: An Integrative Approach and Total Quality Management: The New Frontier of Modern Management. He has presented papers at more than 50 academic and professional conferences in the U.S. and around the world, is a peer reviewer for about a dozen professional publications and serves on the editorial boards of various others, including the IABE’s six official journals.
In October, Elenkov helped position ASU as a partner and co-host for the annual international Conference on Social Values and Competitiveness Development in Sofia, along with conference originators University of Cologne (Germany) and Sofia University.
IABE is a global organization of academic scholars, business executives, students and public policymakers in business, economics and related fields. It hosts annual conferences for worldwide participants as international forums to present research papers and exchange ideas in research, teaching and managerial practices. Dr. Tom Badgett, head of the ASU Department of Management and Marketing, is also on the IABE Executive Committee and Editorial Board.
