Jackson Joins Department

The Department welcomes Dr. Mark Jackson as new assistant professor of English.

His research interests are in seventeenth-century English literature and early modern science and medicine, especially the writings of Francis Bacon.  His dissertation, “The Prolongation of Life in Early Modern Literature and Culture,” received the Howell-Voitle Dissertation Award from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  His articles and reviews have appeared in Notes & Queries, The Ben Jonson Journal, and Sixteenth Century Journal.

    On Tuesday evening, our local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, inducted fifteen new members.
  • On November 2nd, Dr. Jules Gates, associate professor of English, presented her creative nonfiction poem “From His Coy Mistress” on a panel with two other creative nonfiction writers at the 2015 South Central Modern Language Conference (SCMLA) in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • Dr. Chris Ellery, a professor of English in Angelo State University’s Department of English and Modern Languages, has won first prize in the eighth biennial X.J. Kennedy Award for Creative Nonfiction administered by Rosebud Magazine.
