ASU Spooktacular Set for Oct. 15-16

October 09, 2012

The Angelo State University Choir will present the 11th edition of its popular Halloween Spooktacular concert with two performances on Monday, Oct. 15, and Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the McNease Convention Center, 500 Rio Concho Drive.

The performances will begin at 7 p.m. each night and are open free to the public.  Titled “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” each program will feature a medley of favorites from “The Wizard of Oz,” as well as music from Stephen Schwartz’s Broadway blockbuster, “Wicked.”  Each show will then conclude with the traditional Spooktacular rendition of “Time Warp” from the “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Special guest soloist will be Sunday Bullock singing the iconic Judy Garland number, “Over the Rainbow.”  An ASU choir alumna, Bullock is choir director at San Angelo’s Central Freshman Campus and has appeared in several Angelo Civic Theatre productions, including “Cabaret” and “The Producers.”

Featured soloists from the ASU Choir will include Savannah Logsdon, Luke Perkins and Lee Smith of San Angelo, Koen Kirland from Burnet, Brantley Calhoun from Big Spring, Jacob Scott from Bronte, and Californians Jennifer Ramos and Daniel Wirth.

Prior to each performance, a children’s costume contest will be held in the McNease lobby at 6 p.m. for children in two age groups.  Children up to 5 years old and children ages 6-12 will have their costumes judged with awards presented during each concert.  ASU mascots Roscoe and Bella will be on hand to take photos with the children and help distribute Halloween candy.

The ASU Choir is conducted by Dr. Pamela Lee, professor of music and director of choral activities.  Patti Wetzel, recently retired Lee Middle School choir director and a past director at Angelo Civic Theatre, is the choreographer.
