ASU Meat Judging Team Posts Top 5 Finish

Angelo State University’s Meat Judging Team finished fourth out of 15 teams at the 2012 American Royal Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest Oct. 21 in Omaha, Neb.

Competing against 14 teams from Division I universities, the ASU team scored 3,960 points to finish behind only Texas Tech University (4,074 points), Oklahoma State University (4,019) and Kansas State University (4,003).  Other teams competing were from Texas A&M University, University of Wyoming, Michigan State University, Colorado State University, South Dakota State University, University of Illinois, University of Missouri, Iowa State University, North Dakota State University, Ohio State University and University of Nebraska.

In the team event standings, ASU posted six top 10 rankings, finishing tied for second in Beef Grading; third in Beef Judging, Overall Beef and Total Placings; sixth in Specifications; and 10th in Lamb Judging.

Individually for ASU, William Meyer placed fourth in Beef Grading and Placings, fifth in Lamb Judging and ninth in the overall standings.  Darren Seidel also finished seventh in Beef Judging.

Other members of the ASU Meat Judging Team are Caitlyn Van Slambrou, Kameron Haecker and Kylee Weerland.  Next up for the team is the Cargill High Plains Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest on Nov. 4 in Plainview.
