ASU Flag Football Team Wins Qualifier

Angelo State University’s Wolfpac intramural flag football team won the Island Bowl regional qualifier tournament on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Wolfpac defeated an A&M-Corpus Christi team, 33-12, in the Island Bowl final to advance to the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association’s National Campus Championship Series (NIRSA-NCCS) Region IV Flag Football Championships Nov. 16-18 at Texas Tech University.  The winner of the Texas Tech regional will advance along with five other regional winners to the national championship tournament at the University of Central Florida Jan. 4-6.

Wolfpac reached the championship game in Corpus Christi with wins over a Texas Southern University team, 42-12, and a Texas A&M-Kingsville squad, 40-0.  In earlier pool play, the ASU squad defeated a Laredo Community College team, 51-0, and a Texas A&M-Kingsville team, 21-20.  Wolfpac was the only ASU team entered in the tournament.

All-tournament selections from ASU included MVP Trevor Brunet, Reid Jackson, Scott Fankhauser and Lane Hutchins.
