ASU Flag Football Teams Win Regionals

Three Angelo State University flag football teams took first place in their respective divisions at the American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS) Regional Flag Football tournament Nov. 2-4 in Lincoln, Neb.

In the Men’s Division, ASU’s Wolfpac defeated the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s nflflagfootball.com in the final, 20-13, to claim the title.  To reach the final, Wolfpac blew out three opponents in early round play, and then a University of Nebraska-Kearney team, 35-14, in the semifinals to reach the title game.

ASU was also victorious in the Co-Recreational Division as IM Legends repeated as champions with a 41-7 win over University of Nebraska’s 8 Engage in the title game.  IM Legends advanced to the final after scoring two shutouts and a 63-12 decision in preliminary action.

In the Women’s Division, ASU’s Vixen completed a four-shutout sweep of the competition with a resounding 47-0 victory over an Oklahoma Baptist University team in the championship game.

The three ASU squads will now advance to the ACIS Flag Football National Championships Dec. 29-31 at the University of West Florida in Pensacola.

Individual honors included Wolfpac’s Antuan Washington being named Men’s Division MVP.  He was joined on the men’s all-tournament team by Trevor Brunet and Scott Fankhauser.  Also a member of IM Legends, Brunet was named MVP of the Co-Rec Division along with ASU’s Jetton Fontenot, while  Reid Jackson and Danielle Walts were picked for the Co-Rec all-tournament squad.  Walts was also named MVP of the Women’s Division, and Fontenot and Kris Crockett were chosen for the women’s all-tournament team.
