November 14, 2012

Angelo State University’s Concert Chorale will present “A Baroque Holiday” for its annual Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church, 29 N. Oakes St.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open free to the public.  Musical highlights will include sacred works by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel and Antonio Vivaldi.  Also featured will be a double chorus setting of the “Magnificat” (Canticle of Mary) by Charles T. Pachelbel.  Completing the program will be opera selections from Henry Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen” and Handel’s “Julius Caesar.”

The 80-voice ASU Concert Chorale will be accompanied by the Permian Basin String Quartet, First Christian Church organist Beth Walker and soprano soloist Patti Wetzel, an ASU alumna and retired Lee Middle School choral director.  The Concert Chorale is directed by Dr. Pamela Lee, ASU professor of music.
