ASU to Open Fall Semester with Convocation

Angelo State University students, faculty and staff will gather in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St., for the third annual Fall Convocation at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, to mark the start of the new academic year.

Faculty and administrators, dressed in full academic regalia, will welcome students in a graduation-like setting to give them a preview of their own graduation and to welcome them to ASU. Dr. Anthony P. Blose, ASU provost and vice president for academic affairs, will preside over the convocation, and ASU President Joseph C. Rallo will address the students.

Other speakers will include Dr. Vance R. Valerio, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management; Justin Till, president of the Student Government Association; Patrick Dierschke, chair of the Staff Senate; and Dr. Russell Wilke, president of the Faculty Senate. Also in the platform party will be Sharon K. Meyer, vice president for finance and administration, Dr. James M. Limbaugh, vice president for strategy, planning and policy, and Dr. Nancy G. Allen, vice provost for academic affairs.

ASU’s deans will serve as gonfaloniers, carrying the banners of their colleges. They include Dr. Corbett F. Gaulden, Jr., College of Business; Dr. John J. Miazga, College of Education; Dr. Kevin A. Lambert, College of Liberal and Fine Arts; Dr. Leslie M. Mayrand, College of Nursing and Allied Health; Dr. Grady Price Blount, College of Sciences; and Dr. Brian J. May, College of Graduate Studies. Dr. Thomas A. Bankston, head of the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, will serve as ASU Mace bearer. Faculty marshals will be Dr. William B. McKinney of the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance and Dr. James W. Ward, Department of Physics.

ASU junior music major Clara Kern will sing the National Anthem and the ASU alma mater. The ASU Ram Band, with Dr. Daniel McCloud directing, will perform the processional and recessional.
