ASU Students to Study in Moscow

February 12, 2013

Belia Maria Reyes Godoy and Marcus Nellums, students in Angelo State University’s Russian language program, have received scholarships coordinated by the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (CREES) to continue their studies in Moscow this summer.

Godoy, a senior political science major, was awarded her scholarship by the Moscow-Texas Connections program.  She is one of 20 students selected to study at the prestigious Higher School of Economics in Moscow.  Her studies will run from June 10-Aug. 16.

Nellums is a senior ROTC cadet with a psychology major and dual minor in criminal justice and aerospace studies.  His scholarship is through Project GO! (Global Officers), a collaborative initiative promoting  critical language education, study abroad and intercultural dialogue opportunities for ROTC students from a network of 20 participating universities nationwide.  He will study at Moscow International University from June 4-Aug. 5.

CREES is a component of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin.  ASU’s Russian program is part of the Department of English and Modern Languages, which recently joined the Texas, Russian and Eurasian Studies Network (TRESN).  Ewa Davis, ASU instructor of Russian, serves on the TRESN Steering and Selection Committee for institutions of higher learning.  She helped facilitate Godoy’s and Nellums’ CREES scholarship applications.
