Classroom Upgrades at Angelo State

August 05, 2010

To help improve the classroom environment, Angelo State University’s Office of Facilities Planning and Construction has spent more than $1 million over the last three fiscal years to upgrade various classrooms in seven academic buildings on campus.

“After all,” said John Russell, director of facilities planning and construction, “a little paint, some new floor coverings, updated furniture and modern technological equipment can enhance not only the classroom but also the classroom experience for ASU students.”

Some 20 individual classrooms over the past three years have received major upgrades while numerous others have received new furniture or minor touchups during the same period.

“Delivering quality education is our main goal at the university,” Russell said, “and this is a way our office can help enhance the learning experience for our students.”

The classroom upgrades are in addition to routine maintenance and are prioritized based on use and need, said Russell. To date for the 2010 fiscal year, ASU has invested $229,917 in classroom upgrades. In the 2009 fiscal year ASU spent $451,967 on classroom renovations and in the 2008 fiscal year another $394,125.

During the 2009 fiscal year, upgrades touched Carr EFA, Room 101, $122,960; Cavness Science Building, Room 200, $94,295; Academic, Room 205, $76,635; CHP, various classrooms, $50,377; Rassman, Rooms 104/108, $48,668; Vincent Nursing-Physical Science Building, Room 158, $24,943; Cavness, Room 119, $22,181; Academic, Room 004, $8,807; Vincent, Room 120, $1,766; and Math-Computer Science Building, Room 119, $1,335.
