March 28, 2013
As president-elect, Weertz will begin participating in monthly online meetings of the CRLA Board, and will officially join the board at the 46th annual CRLA Conference in Boston in November. She will also serve as program chair for the 2014 CRLA Conference in Minneapolis. After serving one year as president-elect, she will then serve one-year terms on the board as president and past-president.
CRLA is an organization of student-oriented professionals active in the fields of reading, learning assistance, developmental education, tutoring and mentoring at the college/adult level. Its overall purpose is to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, methods and information to improve student learning and to facilitate the professional growth of its members. Weertz previously served as president-elect, president and past-president of the CRLA’s Texas organization in 2009-11.
ASU’s First-Year Experience (FYE) program is a component of the newly-formed Freshman College. Under Weertz’s direction, FYE oversees and/or liaises with the numerous campus academic and personal support programs aimed at helping freshman students transition to college life, stay in school and progress toward graduation.
