ASU to Host Rock Climbing Competition

March 28, 2013

Angelo State University’s Outdoor Adventures program will host its second annual Angelo Rock Climbing Competition on Saturday, April 6, in the Center for Human Performance (CHP), 2050 S. Johnson St.

The contest is open free to students who are taking at least six credit hours at ASU or another college or university.  Registration and check-in will begin at 10 a.m. April 6, with open climbing scheduled from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. followed by the finals at 5 p.m. and an awards ceremony at 6 p.m.  Students can compete in recreational, intermediate or advanced divisions, depending upon their climbing skill level.

The competition will include a mix of bouldering problems and top rope routes in the CHP Climbing Gym, and each route/problem will have a designated point value.  Competitors will receive points for climbs without falling and for difficulty of the climbs.  To qualify for the finals, climbers must turn in a scorecard with a minimum of five climbs, including two by top rope, two with bouldering problems and a “climber’s choice.”

ASU students can download a registration form at www.angelo.edu/dept/university_recreation/Outdoor_Adventures/angelo_rock_climbing_competition.php.  The form should be filled out and submitted in CHP Room 112.

To register from another university or a club, contact event coordinator Aaron Kentner at akentner@angelo.edu, or call 325-942-2034 for more information.
