ASU Passport Ofc Rated ‘Perfect’

April 23, 2013

Angelo State University’s Passport Office received a perfect review score following a recent visit by representatives of the Houston Passport Agency’s Acceptance Facility Oversight Program.

In a message to the ASU office, Beth Pompano, Houston Passport Agency customer service manager, said, “We found that your facility not only provides exceptional service to the traveling public, but your acceptance agents have created a standard of excellence that we would like to see across all acceptance facilities.  The Angelo State University office, during the recent AFO visit, achieved a perfect review, which means that your facility is doing everything correctly when it comes to passport services, and follows the rules/regulations set forth by the Passport Acceptance Reference Guide.”

Opened in February of 2009, the ASU Passport Office is housed in and operated by the Center for International Studies in the East Office Annex at 1825 S. Johnson St.  It provides all the services available from the U.S. Postal Service, including photos, applications, processing and renewals.  Fees in the ASU office are also the same as those at the post office, with the exception of photos, which are slightly less at ASU.

In addition to providing a more convenient passport application process for the campus community, one of the main motives for opening the Passport Office was the new U.S. border restrictions that went into effect in June of 2009, requiring all travelers venturing outside the U.S. to have a passport, even at the Mexico border.  When it opened, ASU’s office was one of only four housed on a college campus, joining Texas Tech University, University of Texas and University of Texas at El Paso.

The ASU Passport Office is open to the campus community and the public 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays.  It also conducts a public Passport Fair during each fall and spring semester.
