April 23, 2013

The Angelo State University Bass Anglers club team of Ethan George and Josh Seale took fifth place at the 2013 FLW College Fishing National Championship held April 19-21 on Beaver Lake near Rogers, Ark.

George, a junior business management major from San Angelo, and Seale, a senior accounting student from Breckenridge, caught 14 bass during the three-day tournament with a total weight of 32 pounds, 9 ounces.  Their fifth-place purse of $3,000 will be split between the Bass Anglers club and the ASU general scholarship fund.

The ASU duo was within 7 ounces of the second-day leaders after landing 10 bass weighing a cumulative total of 28 pounds, 1 ounce during the first two days of the tournament.  Twenty-five collegiate teams competed at the national tournament after qualifying through regional tournaments.

Highlights of the FLW College Fishing National Championship will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network as “FLW” on June 9 from 10-11 a.m. CDT.

All participants in FLW tournaments must be registered, fulltime undergraduate students at four-year colleges or universities, and must be members of fishing clubs recognized by their institutions.  Formed in 1996, FLW is named for Forrest L. Wood, the founder of Ranger Boats.  It is considered the premier tournament fishing organization in the U.S., and organizes tournaments at the high school, college and professional levels.
