ASU Spring Commencement

More than 760 students are scheduled to graduate during Angelo State University’s spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 11, in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St.

Graduates of the College of Education and College of Health and Human Services will walk the stage during a 10 a.m. ceremony. Graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Business will walk the stage in a 2 p.m. ceremony. All of ASU’s commencement activities are open free to the public.

During ASU’s commencement, 18 doctoral degrees, 172 master’s degrees, 627 bachelor’s degrees and 86 associate degrees are scheduled to be presented.  Graduate students will earn 18 doctor of physical therapy, 33 master of arts, five master of professional accountancy, five master of business administration, 74 master of education, one master of public administration, 34 master of science, 17 master of science in nursing and three master of security studies degrees.

Undergraduates will receive 132 bachelor of arts, 85 bachelor of business administration, 11 bachelor of fine arts, five bachelor of cultural competency and security studies, one bachelor of cultural fluency and security studies, 21 bachelor of interdisciplinary studies, five bachelor of music, 282 bachelor of science, 44 bachelor of science in nursing, five bachelor of security studies, 36 bachelor of social work and 86 associate of applied science in nursing degrees.

Additionally, about 135 students who are scheduled to complete their degree requirements in August will participate in the spring commencement ceremonies.  The commencement speaker will be ASU alumna Satcha Pretto, Emmy Award-winning news anchor for the Univision Network.

The commencement ceremonies will conclude two days of graduation-related events on the ASU campus.  At 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, ASU’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will conduct its spring Commissioning Ceremony for 12 graduating cadets in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center inside the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. Each cadet will receive an appointment as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Also on Friday, the physical therapy program will conduct its annual Awards Banquet at 5 p.m. at the Cactus Hotel in downtown San Angelo.  Various student awards, including those for Academic Excellence, Research Excellence and Clinical Excellence, will be distributed, as well as several faculty awards.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, the nursing program will conduct its annual Pinning Ceremony in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.  Pinning ceremonies became a U.S. tradition in the early 1800s to mark students’ completion of nursing education and entry into the profession.

Also Friday, the social work program will conduct a pinning ceremony for graduates who are members of the Student Social Work Association at 7 p.m. in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center.

Then on Saturday, the ASU Alumni Association will host a come-and-go celebration for all graduates, alumni, and their families and friends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave. There will be complementary refreshments and door prizes, as well as discounted ASU merchandise.
