Edward (Eddie) Martinez owned a small business that specialized in structural wiring solutions for the security and audio/visual needs of his residential and commercial commercial customers With his business growing, Eddie began looking for ways to protect his his personal assets, build his brand, and add a sense of legitimacy to his business.

Eddie contacted the Angelo State University Small Business Development Center for assistance. Eddie met with James Leavelle to learn how he could convert his sole proprietorship business to a limited liability company (LLC) business.

James discussed with Eddie the various legal structures available to him and the processes required to complete them. After some thought and discussion, Eddie settled on the LLC and James walked him through the process. They further discussed other legal entities that would impact Eddie’s business such as the State Comptroller’s office and the IRS. Eddie says that James and the SBDC assisted him in reaching his goals by “teaching him how to understand business in general from dealing and understanding sales tax, IRS, SoS, and all other legal statuses. Also, a major understanding on how to increase sales, which was reached in 2012 with their help
and knowledge.”

Essential DataComm, LLC is working hard to meet the structural cabling needs of the Concho Valley and the Permian Basin.
