ASU Graduate Program Ranked
June 13, 2013
Angelo State University’s master’s degree in criminal justice program has been ranked one of the top programs in the country by MastersDegreeOnline.org for the 2013–14 academic year.
Only 38 U.S. colleges and universities are featured on the website for having outstanding graduate criminal justice programs, and Angelo State is one of only five Texas institutions on the list. According to a MastersDegreeOnline.org news release, the rankings were determined through “extensive peer assessment surveys, professional valuations, and the opinion of experts in the field. Methodology assessed a wide range of programs around the country for comprehensive results.”
The other Texas institutions on the outstanding programs list are Texas A&M-International University, University of Texas-Pan American, University of North Texas and Sam Houston State University.
Specifically referencing ASU, the news releases states, “Angelo State University offers a Master of Science in Criminal Justice that is completed online. It’s particularly suited for those already working in Criminal Justice who are seeking promotional opportunities. The college is known for its extensive collection of journals, documents and books related to criminal justice that are available for student research.”
“This recognition is a testament to our criminal justice faculty, who developed the curriculum in our master’s program with the realization that the criminal justice field needs leaders that extend beyond law enforcement,” said Dr. Casey Jones, chair of the ASU Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice. “They have also developed a curriculum that their students can apply in the real world to instill trust in our criminal justice system. When you couple this with the fact that our faculty’s experience helps their students sharpen the skills employers are seeking, it is no surprise that their program attained this recognition.”
