ASU Prof in Annual Pops Concert
June 26, 2013
The San Angelo Community Band, directed by Dr. Daniel McCloud of the Angelo State University music faculty, will perform at the 26th annual San Angelo Symphony July 3rd Pops Concert – Presented by Multi-Chem at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial RiverStage.
McCloud, assistant professor of music and ASU director of bands, has been director of the Community Band since 2012. He selected the music for the Community Band’s Pops Concert performance, which will begin at 7 p.m.
“When selected, we asked him to bring us all new music, and he has honored our request,” said Donna Fowler, Community Band president. “This is an energized-American concert with thoughtfully selected tunes, none of which has been rehearsed or performed by the band in the last 24 years of the band’s existence.”
The Community Band’s portion of the Pops Concert will include “American Anthem,” “Each Time You Tell Their Story,” “Liberty Fanfare,” “American Folk Song Suite,” “Diamond Fanfare,” “Spitfire!,” “Tritsch-Tratsch,” “Tuba Tiger Rag” and “Armed Forces Medley.”
The all-volunteer nonprofit San Angelo Community Band offers a creative outlet for non-professional musicians. In addition to appearing in the annual July 3rd Pops Concert, the group performs a series of open-air concerts.
General admission to the Pops Concert is free, but reserved seating is available for $10 or $25 per person. Reserved seat tickets are available at the San Angelo Symphony office at 72 W. College Ave.
