ASU Theatre Presents Comedy

July 16, 2013

University Theatre at Angelo State University will continue its 2013-14 season with the dinner theatre production of “The Fox on the Fairway,” a madcap comedy about romance, life and man’s eternal love affair with … golf, beginning Thursday, Aug. 1, in the ASU Modular Theatre.

Show times will be at 8 p.m. Aug. 1-3 and Aug. 8-10, with dinner to be served at 6:45 p.m.  A special matinee performance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, with lunch served at 12:45 p.m.

Tickets are $12.50 for ASU students and ASU activity card holders, $15 for non-ASU students and Arts at ASU subscribers, and $20 general admission.  The Modular Theatre is located in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The second of two Arts at ASU summer dinner theatre productions, “The Fox on the Fairway” is a hilarious romp that pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club.  Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, the play has been called a tribute to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s.

Written by Ken Ludwig, “The Fox on the Fairway” debuted in Arlington, Va., in 2010.  The ASU production is directed by Mike Burnett, assistant professor of theatre and assistant director of University Theatre.

The student cast includes Tyler Tennell as Justin, Heather Walker as Louise, Jacob Scott as Bingham, Chloé Casey as Pamela, Jose Villedas as Dickie, Brooke Addison as Muriel, Jordon Shocklee as the female understudy, and Collyn Glaspie as the male understudy.

The production crew includes Elizabeth Holland, stage manager; Sawyer Hirt, assistant stage manager; Ella Burnett, scenic designer; Larry Hettick, lighting designer; Cassie Trautman, costume designer/wardrobe supervisor; Ryder Cornelison, sound designer/sound board operator; Misty Siler, props master; Maggie Hogan, master electrician; Hallie Behrens, light board operator; Caden Glass, props crew; Lura Cummins, wardrobe crew; Rebecca Sussdorf, house manager; and Katie Kejl, maître ?.

Tickets go on sale in the ASU box office on Thursday, July 18, for Arts at ASU subscribers, and Monday, July 22, for the general public.  The ASU box office is open 2-6 p.m. weekdays.  For reservations and/or ticket information, call 325-942-2000.

Subscriptions for the 2013-14 Arts at ASU season, which includes four more plays and 10 music performances, are still available for $30.  Subscribers gain free admission to plays and concerts and pay just $15 for dinner theatres.  For more information on “The Fox on the Fairway” and/or season subscriptions, call 325-942-2146 or go online to www.angelo.edu/dept/arts/theatre/theatre_schedule.php.
