ASU Disability Awareness Event

October 09, 2013

Angelo State University’s Multicultural Center will host a Disability Awareness Celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

Themed “Because We are EQUAL to the Task,” the celebration will commemorate October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month by paying tribute to the accomplishments of people with disabilities and reaffirming ASU’s commitment to ensure equal opportunity for all citizens.

Activities will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main lobby of the University Center and are open free to the public.

Educational videos and posters will be on display, and stations will be set up for participants to experience simulations of immobility, hearing impairment and loss of sight.  ASU’s Disability Services and Council for Exceptional Children, the West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind, Department of Assistive Rehabilitation Services, Early Childhood Intervention, Region XV Special Education Department and ASU physical therapy students will also have stations set up with information about their organizations and various disabilities.
