Erickson Presents at TSCA

This past weekend, Dr. Joe Erickson, assistant professor of English and Director of the First-Year Writing Program, attended the Texas Speech Communication Association Conference in Corpus Christi, TX where he met with educators from Texas high schools, community colleges, and universities to discuss his participation in the AVATAR project last spring. The title of his presentation was “Academics for Vertical Alignment Training and Renewal (AVATAR): Helping Students Transition from High School English to College Composition.”

    On Tuesday evening, our local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, inducted fifteen new members.
  • On November 2nd, Dr. Jules Gates, associate professor of English, presented her creative nonfiction poem “From His Coy Mistress” on a panel with two other creative nonfiction writers at the 2015 South Central Modern Language Conference (SCMLA) in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • Dr. Chris Ellery, a professor of English in Angelo State University’s Department of English and Modern Languages, has won first prize in the eighth biennial X.J. Kennedy Award for Creative Nonfiction administered by Rosebud Magazine.
