Four Students Join Phi Kappa Phi

The Department congratulates Rachel Riggs, Jessica Earwood, Jordan Solis, and Javier Medina for their recent induction into the Angelo State University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest, and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Ms. Riggs is a double major in English and Communication.  Ms. Earwood is an English major with a concentration in secondary teaching and a minor in Spanish.  Ms. Solis is an English major with a concentration in secondary teaching and a minor in Art.  Mr. Medina is a graduate teaching assistant in English at ASU.

    On Tuesday evening, our local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, inducted fifteen new members.
  • On November 2nd, Dr. Jules Gates, associate professor of English, presented her creative nonfiction poem “From His Coy Mistress” on a panel with two other creative nonfiction writers at the 2015 South Central Modern Language Conference (SCMLA) in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • Dr. Chris Ellery, a professor of English in Angelo State University’s Department of English and Modern Languages, has won first prize in the eighth biennial X.J. Kennedy Award for Creative Nonfiction administered by Rosebud Magazine.
