ASU Choir to Host Madrigal Dinners

November 08, 2013

The Angelo State University Concert Chorale will present “A Renaissance Madrigal Dinner” on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Cactus Hotel at 36 E. Twohig Ave. in downtown San Angelo.

Dinner seating will begin at 6 p.m. with guests “heralded” into the Cactus Hotel dining room.  “Royal Chef” Charles Blanek will prepare a three-course meal each night, complete with iced tea and hot wassail for toasting.  The Concert Chorale will entertain guests with a cappella singing in large and small ensembles, featuring Renaissance, Baroque and contemporary music, throughout the evening.

Tickets are $25 per person and must be purchased in advance from Marilyn Flage, Cactus Hotel general manager, whose office is located on the second floor of the hotel, and seating is limited.

“Like the Halloween Spooktacular, we hope the Madrigal Dinner will become a continuing holiday favorite,” said Dr. Pamela Lee, ASU director of choral activities.

The Madrigal Dinner is a revival of a tradition that dates back to 1983, when the ASU Concert Chorale was under the direction of Wayne Eastwood.  ASU alumna Patti Wetzel, who performed in the first production, will assist with this year’s event.
