ASU Wind Ensemble Fall Concert

November 12, 2013

Angelo State University’s Wind Ensemble will present an array of wind symphony classics at its fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the University Auditorium.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open free to the public.  The University Auditorium is located in the Sol Mayer Administration Building, 2601 W. Avenue N.

Featured music for the program will include “Chorale and Shaker Dance” by contemporary composer John Zdechlik, featuring numerous soloists; “The Ascension,” the third of four movements of “Divine Comedy” by Robert Smith; “Vesuvius” by Frank Ticheli that evokes the final days of the doomed city of Pompeii destroyed by the volcano on Mount Vesuvius; and a march by John Philip Sousa.

“This is a fun program with a vast variety of music for every taste,” said Arturo Valdez, ASU director of bands.

The Wind Ensemble, directed by Valdez, is the premier concert band in the ASU music program, consisting of its best instrumentalists on woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.  Members are drawn from the Visual and Performing Arts Department and other areas of study throughout the university.
