ASU Hosting CONNECT! Showcase

November 18, 2013

Angelo State University’s Center for Community Engagement will host its second annual CONNECT! Student Showcase on Monday, Nov. 25, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The showcase will run from 2-4 p.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center and is open free to the public.  Students will display presentations about their community service projects that include repairing homes for the elderly, creating websites for community partners, peer-teaching and physical education classes for children in after-school programs, as well as other efforts to promote the arts and the sciences.

The showcase is a component of the CONNECT! Campus and Community program, which is the centerpiece of ASU’s efforts to enhance the educational experience for students through hands-on practices like service learning and internships.  It is headed by Dr. Doyle Carter, director of ASU’s Center for Community Engagement.

“The purpose of the showcase,” Carter said, “is to celebrate the many ways ASU students give back to the community and learn valuable lessons in the process.  We also think that the week of Thanksgiving is a perfect time to celebrate the community spirit we are blessed to have here at ASU and in the Concho Valley.”
