Civil War Lecture Series Covers Literature

Drs. Wallis R. Sanborn, III and Gabriela Serrano (left),from the Department of English and Modern Languages presented on “Civil War Literature” for the History Department’s Civil War Lecture series.  Dr. Linda Kornasky, also from the Department of English and Modern Languages moderated the event.  Dr. Sanborn’s talk was entitled “Characteristics of the American Novel of War in the Civil War Literature of Walt Whitman, Stephen Crane, Harold Frederic, and Ambrose Bierce.”  Dr. Serrano’s was titled, “Mourning as a Process for Healing:  Whitman’s Immortalization of Lincoln in ‘O Captain! My Captain!’ and ‘When Lilacs in the Door-yard Bloom’d.’”
