Clark Named Athletics Development Officer at Angelo State
February 11, 2010
Dr. Jason Penry, ASU’s executive director of development, announced the appointment. Penry said Clark will focus on major gifts to athletics and on selected academic programs.
“We are pleased to welcome Rob to the development team,” Penry said. “He is passionate about education and will be a great asset as we continue to build a program that is strong across the board in individual, corporate and planned giving.”
Clark has served the last two years as special assistant to the senior associate athletic director for student-athlete development at Texas A&M. In May, he will receive his Ph.D. in sport management from A&M. He has also served in A&M’s athletic compliance office, most recently as compliance coordinator since 2007. In those capacities at A&M, he worked closely with coaches and student-athletes, coordinated a variety of community outreach programs and fundraising efforts, and assisted with football scheduling.
Prior to joining Texas A&M, Clark worked as a college football recruiter for Occidental College, his alma mater, in Los Angeles. His related duties included assisting in special events and helping raise funds for the football team. Additionally, Clark had two years of marketing experience in the private sector with Dan Jones and Associates in Salt Lake City.
“I am very excited to serve Angelo State and the great people associated with ASU locally, regionally and throughout the great state of Texas,” Clark said. “It’s a great time for ASU athletics and my family is excited to help advance the rich traditions of ASU.”
Clark holds a Bachelor of Arts in diplomacy and world affairs with a minor in education from Occidental College, where he also earned a Master of Arts in social science.
He becomes the second development officer at Angelo State. With Penry and two full-time development officers, ASU’s Office of Development is the largest it has been in the history of the institution. The growth is in line with the Texas Tech University System’s strategic plans to increase external support.
