ASU Flag Football National Title

January 10, 2014

Angelo State University co-recreational intramural flag football squad IM Legends won the 2013 National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) National Campus Championship Series national championship on Jan. 5 at the University of West Florida in Pensacola.

IM Legends defeated a Kennesaw State University team, 48-16, in the championship game to win the title.  To get to the tournament final, the ASU team beat a Valdosta State team, 63-15, in the semifinals after defeating a Texas Tech team, 68-6, and a Georgia Southern team, 61-9, in pool play.  It was the second consecutive NIRSA national title for IM Legends.

Individually for IM Legends, Reid Jackson was named tournament MVP and joined teammate Jodi Jackson on the All-America Team.

IM Legends has now won four national titles in the past five years, claiming 2010 and 2012 American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS) championships and the 2012 and 2013 NIRSA titles.

Also competing at this year’s NIRSA tournament was ASU men’s team Wolfpac, which lost in the quarterfinals to a team from the Air Force Academy, 39-24, after defeating teams from North Carolina A&T, Alabama and West Florida in pool play.
