Amanda Sparks and Brittany O’Malley were working together at a local restaurant when work conditions began having a negative effect on their morale. Amanda wanted to start her own cleaning business and discussed having Brittany come on board as a contract employee.

The two did their homework and researched what it would take to start a business. That is when they found the Angelo State University – Small Business Development Center and met with advisor James Leavelle. In their discussions with him, they learned that their contract employee relationship might not work like they planned. Consequently, they decided to start the business as a partnership.

James guided through the process of filing their partnership DBA, filing for their EIN, and sales tax certificate. He also made sure they developed a partnership agreement that would govern their business relationship. The partners had this to say, “When we came to the SBDC, we had no idea how to start our business. James was our first encounter, and broke everything down for us to understand. He gave us the motivation and encouragement to make this business become what it is becoming.”

Since opening their business, Amanda and Brittany have grown their clientele through delivering the same customer service and attention to detail that made them popular and successful servers in the restaurant industry.

Amanda and Brittany started a business, creating two jobs.
