ASU Intramural Flag Football Teams Shine at Regionals

Angelo State University teams won two titles at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association’s National Campus Championship Series (NIRSA-NCCS) Regional Flag Football Tournament Nov. 5-7 at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

New Era won the 42-team Men’s Division by defeating ASU rival Wolfpac, 27-6. With a revamped roster, New Era also won the 15-team Co-Recreational Division by defeating another ASU team, IM Legend, 34-18. In the 12-team Women’s Division, ASU’s Vixen reached the championship game before falling 35-0 to the Texas State Blazers.

Next up for the New Era teams is the NIRSA-NCCS Flag Football National Championships Jan. 4-6 at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Three ASU players were selected MVP of their respective divisions and 11 players from ASU were awarded all-tournament honors. In addition, Tyler Gueldner, an official from ASU, was awarded all-tournament status and received an automatic bid to the national tournament.

In the Men’s Division, Chas Freeman of New Era was named MVP, while teammate Art Artega and Wolfpac’s Lane Hutchins and Antuan Washington were picked for the all-tournament team.

In the Co-Rec Division, Kris Crockett of New Era was named female MVP and Trevor Brunet of IM Legends was chosen male MVP. Danielle Low, Reid Jackson and Amanda Williams of IM Legends, along with Allison Lipsohn, Artega, Freeman and Cody Lilley of New Era were all-tournament picks.

Jodi Nichols and Low received all-tournament honors for Vixen in the Women’s Division.
