ASU Hosting First-Gen Students

February 03, 2014

About 500 first-generation students from 19 high schools throughout Texas will gather at Angelo State University for the ASU First 2014 program on Friday, Feb. 7.

ASU First is designed to give high school juniors and seniors who are considering becoming the first in their families to attend college their initial glimpse into the realities of campus life.  Participants will attend workshops to learn about the admission process, financial aid, academic majors, career development options and available first-generation programs.  They will also learn about the services available through ASU’s Freshman College to help them achieve academic success and persist to graduation.

Participating students will also meet with current first-generation students attending ASU, tour the campus and eat in the ASU cafeteria.

ASU First is hosted by the ASU Multicultural Center with the goal of showing first-generation students that ASU is a viable choice for an affordable, high-quality and close-to-home college experience.
