Angelo State University Department of Communication, Mass Media and Theatre (CMMT) faculty members Dr. Shawn Wahl and Dr. George Pacheco Jr. were named to National Communication Association leadership roles at the group’s convention Nov. 13-18 in San Francisco.

Wahl, CMMT Department head, was elected vice chair and national program planner of the Instructional Development Division. Pacheco, an assistant professor of communication, served as chair and national program planner of the Latina/o Communication Studies Division/La Raza Caucus.

Pacheco and Wahl, along with fellow ASU faculty Dr. Chris Collins and Dr. Jake Simmons, also participated in national peer review panels and presented papers at the convention. The CMMT Department was also represented at the convention by faculty Dr. June Smith and Wade Walker, along with undergraduate student Jazmin Hernandez and graduate students Evan Richardson and Kaitlyn Sosolik Brosh.

In addition to national-level scholarly/creative activity, professional development and service/leadership, the department sponsored a booth at the convention’s Graduate Student Recruitment Fair and the Job Recruitment Fair, where the graduate students networked with doctoral program representatives and Hernandez represented Lambda Pi Eta, a communication undergraduate honor society.
