Russian Club Presents “Siberian Voices”

Where: San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts

“Siberian Voices” will explore the peoples and cultures, as well dramatic landscape, of South- Central Siberia. Speakers will share their own expertise and experiences on a summer 2013 travel-seminar through the region that began in Kyzyl, proceeding to Irkutsk, Lake Baikal, and finally Ulan Ude, skirting the Russian-Mongolian border—along the Trans-Siberian railroad. Through pictures, maps, and personal stories speakers will describe the rich history and geography of this fascinating cultural borderland, layered with various indigenous, as well as Russian, Mongolian, Chinese, Turkic, and Tibetan influences.

    On Tuesday evening, our local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, inducted fifteen new members.
  • On November 2nd, Dr. Jules Gates, associate professor of English, presented her creative nonfiction poem “From His Coy Mistress” on a panel with two other creative nonfiction writers at the 2015 South Central Modern Language Conference (SCMLA) in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • Dr. Chris Ellery, a professor of English in Angelo State University’s Department of English and Modern Languages, has won first prize in the eighth biennial X.J. Kennedy Award for Creative Nonfiction administered by Rosebud Magazine.
