Intramural Team Wins Regional

Angelo State University women’s intramural basketball team WT Impact won the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Championship Series regional basketball tournament March 7-9 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.

WT Impact defeated a University of Texas at Arlington team, 61-51, in the championship game to win the extramural series.  To get to the tournament final, the ASU team beat a Sam Houston State University team, 55-25, in the semifinals after defeating a University of Houston team, 56-38, and a University of Denver team, 60-54, in pool play.

Individually for WT Impact, Kim Haynes was named tournament MVP and joined teammate Mercedes Lopez on the all-tournament team.

By winning the regional tournament, WT Impact qualified for the NIRSA Championship Series National Basketball Tournament April 11-13 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C.
