Employees are responsible for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, investigation of criminal complaints, and the general enforcement of state laws and local ordinances. Work is performed in accordance with Department general orders and consists of, but is not limited to, patrol, investigative, and administrative duties. Employees must be able to act without direct supervision and exercise independent discretion when appropriate. Employees may be assigned to work in the field, at headquarters, on special assignments, or other duties as needed. Part-time officers may not exceed nine hundred ninety nine (999) hour of employment in a calendar year; such part-time officers are at-will employees, and they are not civil service employees.

Applicants must possess a current TCOLE peace officer’s license. Applicants for part-time police officer positions must have honorably separated as a full-time Texas Peace Officer with a minimum of five years experience in Texas or a minimum of two years of experience with the San Angelo Police Department. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
