ASU Woodwind Festival to Feature Prominent Guest Musicians

Several of America’s eminent woodwind musicians will participate in a week of music and instruction for high school and college students during Angelo State University’s expanded Woodwind Festival Feb. 28-March 5.

The festival will feature concerts and clinics throughout the week, with most performances in the Eldon Black Recital Hall in the ASU Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive. All performances are open free to the public.

Guest musicians at the festival will include Richard Nunemaker, who teaches at the University of St. Thomas in Houston; Leone Buyse, the Joseph and Ida Kirkland Mullen Professor of Flute at Rice University’s School of Music; and Mark Ostoich, professor of oboe at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.

The guest musicians and ASU faculty will conduct festival master classes for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone on Saturday, March 5, beginning at 10:30 a.m. ASU students will showcase their talents at 1:30 p.m. in the Black Recital Hall, then return for more master classes at 2 p.m. and a rehearsal for mass choir at 3:15 p.m.

Festival activities will culminate with the Fifth Annual ASU Mass Woodwind Choir performance involving all festival participants at 4:30 p.m. March 5 in Room 134 of the Carr EFA Building.
