KDP Honor Society Inductees

Angelo State University’s Mu Gamma chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) international honor society for education added 51 new members during its recent induction ceremony.

The 2014 spring initiates from San Angelo are Cesar Amezcua, Allison Camacho, Trent Campbell, Sarah Carr, Tyra Chappa, Casey Cornwell, Mary George, Jennifer Gonzales, Jennah Hamilton, Peri Hiltibidal, Theresa Maskill, Taylor McDermott, Amanda McPeak, Emily Noll, Jeremy Porche, Tara Chappell and Erika Wheaton.

Other inductees include Blanca Banuelos of Christoval, April Brawley of Junction, Shannon Garcia of Del Rio, Kristina Gaspar of Rotan, Morgan Griffith of Idalou, Natascha Hale of Spring Branch, Christy Harris of Colorado City, Cadyn Heinze of Miles, Savannah Martinez of Bronte, Ashley McLaurin of Lubbock, Renee Pritchard of Huntsville, Karen Batson and Elizabeth Rapstine of Abilene, Katherine Robb of San Antonio, Tiffany Sanchez of Fredericksburg, Bailey Webster of Crowley, Jordan Yedica of Kingwood and Kathryn Young of Grand Prarie.

Also, Megan Becker of Wellman, Terise Boggs of Georgetown, Isaac Cox of Chilton, Nicolle Epps of Baytown, Kimberely Harrison of Austin, Yolanda Holden of Spring, Morgan Hubbard of Hutto, Xueqin Jiang of Haskell, Angelia Little of North Richland Hills, Dolanda Lockett of Mt. Pleasant, Fawn Martwick of Waxahachie, Ricardo Molina of McAllen, Raul Ordaz of Denton, Hannah Saunders of Mesquite, Tonya Shine of Texarkana and Beverly Thornton of Kerrville.

The chapter also honored Dr. Charlene Bustos, an assistant professor in the Department of Teacher Education, with the KDP Alumni Award.  KDP Honor an Educator awards were presented to Ellen Moreland, senior instructor in the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Christine Purkis, associate professor in the Department of Teacher Education, and Sherry Valentine, a retired elementary teacher from Marble Falls.

To qualify for KDP, undergraduate students must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher in 12 or more hours of education courses. Graduate students can qualify with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher after a minimum of 12 hours of professional education courses.  ASU’s Mu Gamma chapter of KDP inducts new members each fall and spring.

KDP was founded in 1911 at the University of Illinois to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching.  The national organization is composed of 600 chapters, and total international membership numbers more than 40,000.
