ASU Professors to Perform Women Composers’ Music
February 26, 2010
Dr. Christine Buckstead, Dr. Eleanor Elkins and Dr. Tim Bonenfant will present the music of Elizabeth Bell, Deborah Kavasch, Barbara Harbach and Stella Sung during the 7:30 p.m. concert, which is open free to the public in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
Pieces planned for the program include Sung’s “Three Songs,” Bell’s “Millennium,” Kavasch’s “Metamorphosis” and Harbach’s “Pioneer Women: From Skagway to White Mountain.” Bell’s work sets a poem by Lewis Thomas, Sung’s is by Robert Frost, and Harbach’s material is taken from some letters by some of the first women to settle in Alaska.
The three will also perform at a four-day festival in Indiana, Pa., on Saturday, March 20, as part of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Ninth Festival of Women Composers. The trio has the unique opportunity to work with the composers before their concert. Kavasch is the featured composer at the festival and Bell is attending specifically for the ASU performance.
